DNA as Evidence

DNA is the building block of an individual’s entire genital make-up. In a person DNA is similar in all the cells. It differs from individual to individual except in the case of identical twins. So DNA is collected from the crime spot and used as evidence. A DNA profile can easily be created as it can be obtained from hair or bone tissue and used for comparing with other profiles.

DNA is used as evidence and is used to bring unsolved cases to a conclusion and in freeing the innocent persons who are wrongfully declared as the culprit. It is also used to prove whether two individuals are related or not. Even in Military, soldiers who die are identified by their DNA match that is recorded at the time of recruit.

When using extremely small sized DNA as evidence in some serious cases, proper care must be taken that it should not get contaminated by any foreign particles otherwise it may become problematic. Once when evidence is got, it should be put in a paper bag labeled or sealed and transported safely and maintained in room temperature in a dry condition.

The more the investigators are expert in using DNA samples as evidence more easily the case will be solved. Every state in the Nation maintains a DNA database which includes a collection of DNA profiles of individuals who committed crimes such as murder, rape. Thus when DNA evidence is secured it can be compared with the database which is already stored.
